Tanks in detail Number 3 PzKpfw V Panther D, A and G ISBN 0-7110-2941-5
Jonathan Forty

This 96-page book is the 3rd book in the series and follows the same format as the panzer IV book. The book is in 5 Chapters with a chapter for Design & Development / Chassis, Engine & Tracks / Fighting Compartment / Armament / Markings & Insignia. The book is full of B & W pictures (some better than others) of both in action and factory shots and also plenty of interior shots. The last chapter has colour pages of the different unit markings. Some of the captions are poorly marked with a picture of the prototype marked up as a model D and a model D marked up as a G. The text is also out of date when cross-referenced with the Osprey New Vanguard No67 on the Panther and also Achung Panzer No 4 on the Panther. The saving grace for the book is the number of images that it contains, if you are able to match the images to the text in the New Vanguard book then the misstates are easy to rectify.

Conclusion:
This book is a bit of a disappointment on one hand it has some very good images but is let down by the miscaptioned pictures and inaccurateness in the text. I would buy the Osprey New Vanguard No67 first then get this book for its images alone as the miscaptions are easy to put right if you have both books. But this book is value for money for those modellers on a budget.

Obtained from F and S Scale Models.
