| Panzer Tracts No.5-1 Panzerkampfwagen "Panther"
Ausfuehrung D by Thomas L Jentz and Hilary Louis Doyle ISBN 0-9708407-8-0 This 72-page book from Panzer Tracks is the first in a series devoted entirely to the Panther with one variant being the subject of each book. The book uses the latest research into the Panther. The authors have used original documentation and drawings to produce the most up to date reference book on the Ausf D yet published. There are plenty of large clear pictures with easy to understand captions, the pictures include production line shots, Turret and Hull internal shots, and the V1 and V2 on test. The book has four sets of five view 1/35th plans. The first being of the Versuchs-serie, Fgst.NrV2 initial trail series vehicles and then three other sets of Panthers completed in January, June and September 1943 showing the various modifications made during their production runs. One other set of 1/35th plans is a as built plan showing all the different plates that make up the hull in a flat view so you could build a complete hull from scratch, to aide you to do this through out the book are many 1/10th scale as-built drawings of all the different hull fittings including tool racks, crew hatches, exhaust grills, engine deck air intakes and the many more of the small fittings attached to the hull and turret. Conclusion: After reading this book for the first time I nearly through all my other Panther books out the window (but the blind was shut) so they will have to sit on the shelf and gather dust. If you are planning to build Dragons Panther D then this book is a must have. I am looking forward to the rest of the series. |
